Update for the Fairy Mai event

Fairy Mai’s Magical Midsummer Frolic

Sunday, June 24, 2012, 1- 4 PM

We’ll have a terrific time on Midsummer day,

And have a lot of fun the fairy way,

The party starts just after noon,

Come when the foxglove blossoms on the quarter moon.

Come on over for a shimmerific afternoon with Fairy Mai, Fairy Iris, and their troupe of fairy friends, including Nadime the Moonlight Fairy, Chestnut the Elf, and the Summer Fairy!

The party will be even better this year, with new games, arts and crafts, fairy friends, and a very, very special surprise guest!

Wear your best fairy attire or come as you are!

Activities include:

1. Face painting
2. Create your very own fairy crown
3. Make a magical wand
4. Dance in the Fairy Ring
5. Fairy games
6. And enchanting music!

Refreshments will be provided for both children and grown up fairies.

Suggested Ages: 3- 10   

Fees: $25 per child (additional siblings $15).  Sliding scale option available. Checks, cash and Paypal accepted.

The acorn hat

Oh yes, and I'm also nearly finished with making Chestnut the Elf's acorn hat- This is how I made it.
First- I demolished a bunch of Trader Joe's bags and soaked them in gluey water.
Then I made a loop out of coathanger that can fit over his head.  I laid the strips of gluey- wet paper over the wire in an overlapping pattern so that it made a hat.
I then let it dry.  And painted it dark brown.
Then for the hard part- the pinecones.
I've noticed that if you look at an acorn cap really, really closely, it looks like teeny tiny little shingles.
And what better shingles to use than the ones from a pinecone?
So, over several weeks, I pulled each little shingle one by one from a bunch of pinecones my grandma found, and hot- glued each individual one onto the papier- mache hat- shell. 
It looks really awesome now, and I've only got six inches left!

costume

Spent 50 bucks at the fabric store yesterday!  I used up all of the tulle making the skirt, and it's not even half done.  But it looks really shimmerific so far, and I can't wait to see how it'll look completed with the lace- up bustiere, the wings, garland and green tights!
Next I'm going to make my brother's tunic; he's going to be an autumn leaf elf (Chestnut) , and the tunic's going to look like an orange autumn leaf with yellow trim.
My friend Somer (the Summer Fairy) nearly finished her costume, which I must say looks amazing.  Her mother bought a yellow sleeping gown from the thrift store, cut it up, and sewed it back together so it looks like a daffodil, and she wears a white tutu under it.  The wings are absolutely beautiful, bright yellow with gold swirlies on it.
Little Paula ( Nadime)  is going to paint faces and lead the dancing with Chestnut.  Her gown is going to be white with a sparkling silver trim at the hem and shoulders, and she will have wings that represent a silver crescent moon. 
Finally, Fairy Iris already has her costume, a pink shirt with a sparkly lialac skirt resembling petals.  But her wings fell apart, so she will remake them with me.
